ABOUT BIS


	BIS (erstwhile ISI) has been the founder member of ISO since 1947 and has been very actively involved in the working of ISO since its inception. It has held a responsible office bearer positions in the past.
	Sir Jehangir Ghandy, Vice-President of erstwhile ISI was elected as ISO President for the term 1965 -1967.
	Shri D.C. Kothari, Vice President of erstwhile ISI was also elected as ISO President for 1983-1985 term.
	Dr. Lal C. Verman, first Director General of BIS was the Vice- President of ISO for the term 1949 – 1951 and 1952-1954. He was also elected as Chairman of the ISO Technical Board (then known as Planning Committee) for the term 1953 – 1957.
	Plastics Sectional Committee, PCD 12 is the National Mirror Committee of ISO/TC 61-‘Plastics' and has published 226 Standards
	Being a founder member of ISO, BIS encourages and adopts the standards formulated by ISO/IEC in most of the cases with a view to facilitate trade and sustainable ........
	India is a P-member on TC 61 technical committee of ISO. India participates in the process of international standardization carried out by ISO, by voting as well as by sending Indian delegation comprising of the members on the respective technical committees to attend the meetings, held in various countries, from time to time.
